4 Practical Ways To Overcome A Mental Block

Have you ever started out working on a project bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and only to realise that a mental block has suddenly hit you and you can’t move forward? It can be every professional’s worst nightmare!

Sometimes, you get so fixated on making things perfect, or too much tasks are at hand that it seems to daunting to handle.

You’re not alone! So don’t beat yourself up in you’re stuck in a rut. Okay so now I’m about to share my top 4 powerful, effective ways to overcome a mental block:

  1. FREE WRITE - I do this all the time. When I feel stuck, I take out my notebook / grab a paper / open a new word doc and start writing whatever that is on my mind. I’ve practised free writing for many years, and you just need to set aside 10 to 15 minutes. You will write gibberish at first (get that out of your system!) and slowly ideas will flow.

  2. TACKLE SMALL TASKS FIRST - Take a step back, take a break. Do the small stuff, like reorganising your desk / clear the dishes / go through unread emails etc

  3. CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT - switch up your scenery! Go for a quick walk / move to another cafe space / do your work outside.

  4. ANALYSE OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS - take to the internet, and search on how other professionals have approached the issues that you’re trying to solve. Gain inspiration from them, and create your own ways of doing things or understanding different concepts.

Let me know what would be your go to methods on how to overcome a mental block in the comment box below. Would love to hear your thoughts!
